The aim of the British Society for Gene Therapy is to accelerate scientific progress and promote ethical and efficient transfer of gene- and cell-based technologies from the laboratory into the clinic.

Gene therapy is an area where co-operation between ALL the interested parties - general public, patients, scientists, government and the media - is vital for the optimal development of these technologies and treatments, and BSGT is working towards becoming this pro-active interface.

BSGT 2008 Annual Conference 7th- 9th April 2008, Edinburgh

Thank you to all our speakers, sponsors, delegates and exhibitors for ensuring that the BSGT conference was yet another resounding success.

The meeting report is now available.

Art of Gene Therapy

Earlier this year BSGT embarked on a new project to engage pupils in secondary and primary schools with gene therapy. Creative workshops were run by Dr Lizzie Burns for over 300 school pupils in Edinburgh in the run-up to BSGT2008. Read more about the outreach project and view some of the artwork here

The BSGT Visiting Fellow Travel Award has been established to enable young members of BSGT to travel and work in a foreign laboratory with the aim of establishing new international collaborations.

A call for applications was issued in June 2008 and Dr Sayandip Mukherjee (Institute of Child Health) was chosen to receive the second BSGT Travel Award. Further details.

The third call for applications will be issued in June 2009.

The BSGT Helpline is now available. Its aim is to optimise communication between gene and cell therapy research groups in the UK - ranging from questions regarding equipment, reagents and protocols to locating a particular cell line/vector. This facility is for members of the Society only, please contact the Helpline Administrator if you wish to post a question or be added to the mailing list.
