The BSGT 2008 Scientific Committee invite you to join us in historic and
beautiful Edinburgh for the 5th Annual BSGT Conference. We hope you'll take the
opportunity to contribute your expertise and opinions to the scientific forum
and your most enthusiastic dancing moves to the first ever BSGT Ceilidh!
The scientific programme features key national and international speakers, with
sessions focussing upon gene and cell therapy research in the following fields:
-
Respiratory system
-
Improving cardiac function: insights from gene and stem cell therapy
-
Innate immunity and viral gene delivery
-
Recent advances in treatment of eye disease
-
Cancer gene therapy: clinical advances
-
Vector-mediated pathogenesis
-
Viral vector gene therapy for neurodegenerative diseases
This will be preceded by an education session aimed at students and researchers
who are new to the field and wish to gain an overview of vector systems and
delivery. The main Conference Sessions will also include short oral
presentations selected from the proffered abstracts.
UK-based PhD students or researchers who completed their PhD within the last 3
years will also be eligible to enter the Fairbairn Award Competition. This
Award of £400 is sponsored by the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research and
BSGT and will be awarded to the best presentation in the Fairbairn Award
Symposium. The on-line abstract system will prompt authors to indicate whether
they wish their abstract to be considered for this competition.
In addition, BSGT is working to improve the public and media perception and
understanding of gene and cell therapy and key to this will be the BSGT Public
Engagement Day, which will take place on Monday 7th April 2008.
We hope you will be able to join us to enjoy this unique opportunity for
scientific debate and networking offered by the Annual BSGT Conference.
